A frequent question I get when people see my Mainland rental listings is “can I use my own group to own the land?”. The answer is yes, with some caveats.
Firstly, I will only consider using your own group for parcels of 16384 sq.m. or larger (I simply don’t have the group slots available otherwise, and it creates additional admin work too).
Mainland is not like private Estate land – i.e. I cannot “sell” a parcel of land to you and still retain my title over it in the future. As such, I need to be careful with the permissions that I give you to protect my own interests (I wouldn’t want you to sell my land!)
Here is the process we would have to follow if we agreed to use one of your own groups:
- Ideally, you would first setup whichever roles/permissions you needed in your group – as you will not be able to do this youself after the next few steps.
- You would invite me as an Owner to your group.
- Other Owner members would need to resign from this role (or drop to an Officer-equivalent role).
- I would then verify the group roles, making sure the following permissions were disabled in all roles:
* Roles -> Assign and Remove Abilities in Roles
* Group Identity -> Change Charter, Insignia, and ‘Show in search’
* Parcel Management -> Deed land and buy land for group
* Parcel Management -> Abandon land to Govenor Linden
* Parcel Management -> Set land for sale info
* Accounting -> Pay group liabilities and receive group dividends
- I would then deed the land parcel to the above group.
- Voila! All done. You could use the land as you wish and contact me as and when you need any permission/role changes made. I usually respond pretty quickly.
- At the end of the rental agreement, I return your group to you by promoting you to Owner and resigning from the group myself.
